Index Data’s Ian Hardy joins Demian Katz from Villanova University on an exploration of FOLIO and VuFind.  VuFind is a highly flexible discovery layer. FOLIO is a powerful library services platform. Both are open source, built by libraries for libraries. This presentation will briefly introduce both packages, discuss how they can work together to enhance library services, and share the present state of integration work. After the presentation, there will be time for questions from the participants.  The session is on July 30, 2021, at noon Eastern U.S. time.  See the registration form for details.

Also on July 30, 2021, Index Data’s Wayne Schneider is part of a panel discussion for the MARC Formats Transition Interest Group.  Wayne will talk about Index Data’s work with the Library of Congress on MARC-BIBFRAME crosswalks. He will discuss the work done on capturing the mappings and the implementation of a set of open source tools to implement these crosswalks in any system.  The session is at 3:00pm Eastern U.S. time.  See the registration form for details.

During ALA CORE Week, the Open Source Systems interest group hosts a panel on FOLIO adoption.  In this one-hour panel discussion, representatives from three libraries will share their recent experience migrating to the new open source LSP, FOLIO. Each library will represent a different service provider (i.e., Index Data, EBSCO, and ByWater Solutions) that offers implementation services and ongoing support for FOLIO. Simmons University’s implementation of FOLIO using services from Index Data is among the panelists.  The speakers will discuss the challenges they faced during the implementation process and provide tips for future libraries that may be considering a future migration.  This session is on July 27, 2021, at 2:00pm Eastern U.S. time.  See the registration form for details.

The Library of Congress January BIBFRAME Update Forum, normally held during ALA Midwinter, is online this year on Sunday, January 24, 2021, from 10:00am to 11:00am Eastern U.S. time.  During this forum, Index Data’s Sebastian Hammer and Wayne Schneider will be reflecting on “BIBFRAME in a MARC World”.

Sally McCallum from the Library of Congress posted this announcement:

The Library of Congress is planning for 2021 to be an expansion year for its BIBFRAME cataloging operation as a large project involves bringing all the cataloging staff into BIBFRAME.   This means that interchange using both BIBFRAME and MARC will also expand, as will the potential for new developments for systems based on either format.  This Update will hear about plans of Ex Libris for Linked Data — How bridging the BIBFRAME and MARC workflows might work in the Folio development —  And an OCLC intent to be able to “adroitly” consume and export BIBFRAME data.
