Our own Mike Taylor has been invited to speak at the Berlin Open Access Conference on the 19th of November in Berlin, Germany. Also on the program along with Mike will be representatives of three European governments: UK Universities & Science Minister David Willetts, German Education & Research Minister Johanna Wanka, and European Commission Vice President Neelie Kroes. The purpose of this meeting is to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Berlin Declaration on Open Access and to assess how far the world has come along the road to universal instant free access to scientific research.
Mike will also be speaking at the Berlin 11 Satellite Conference the day before to foster the engagement of students and early stage researchers with Open Access. Mike will address both the power these groups have to create change and the challenges they face from a scholarly publishing system in transition.
