September 24, 2010 – Boston, MA. Index Data announces the addition of two important features to their MasterKey™ discovery platform. MasterKey is a service-oriented family of components, deployable together to form a turnkey solution, or as individual modules to extend the capabilities of an existing system. These latest enhancements adds powerful functionality in the areas of metadata indexing and access management.
The first innovation adds a tight integration between Index Data’s Open Source Pazpar2 module – which drives the search logic of MasterKey – and the popular SOLR/Lucene indexing engine. The integration makes it possible to freely mix the two fundamental paradigms of modern discovery systems in one versatile application: Central Indexing and Broadcast Metasearching. Explains Sebastian Hammer, Index Data’s President: “Conventional wisdom holds that a discovery system must base itself upon one approach or the other. Our philosophy is to get results to the user, no matter where they come from. We want to provide tools to enable our partners to build excellent solutions without setting limits for how the data is accessed.” The integrated solution combines all the speed and depth of a centrally indexed repository of metadata with the flexibility and cost benefits of a distributed search system. Results can be presented to the user as soon as they are available, in a single, relevance-ranked result list.
The second new feature extends the powerful Connector Platform component of the MasterKey platform with an ability to broker direct access from users to access-controlled content. The operation and maintenance of single sign-on mechanisms is a fundamental challenge to libraries and information professionals in a world where licensed content makes up an increasing part of many creative processes. The new Context Proxy allows a user direct access to content, in a pre-authenticated user session. Lynn Bailey, CEO of Index Data says: “Our business is based on enabling partners to build excellent services for their patrons, customers, or users. The Context Proxy allows users to easily access the native interfaces of the content providers from the Discovery platform. It is simple to operate, and provides a seamless flow for the end-user. Best of all, our service-oriented approach allows our partners and customers to integrate this functionality right into their own applications.”
